I haven’t walked for a while… how fit do I need to be? All our walking holidays can be enjoyed by anyone with an average walking ability and fitness. There is no set itinerary – which means the choice is yours as regards to when and where you want to walk. However, if you haven’t walked for a while a bit of preparatory exercise before you travel will add to the enjoyment of your holiday. Do let us know please if you have any concerns and check with your doctor if you have any medical conditions. More information on the walks and fitness requirements for our walking holidays can be found on the Walks, Fitness & Navigation page on this site.
Do we need to know how to navigate? All our suggested walking routes follow waymarked trails, making navigation straightforward. For more info on navigation whilst on a Touching Nature Travel walking holiday please visit the Walks, Fitness & Navigation page on this site.
What information will be provided on the walks? Touching Nature Travel will provide written walking notes (English language and waterproofed) with clear and concise directions of the best possible, and thoroughly researched, walks and rambles in each holiday region. In addition to the walking notes we will supply the relevant walking map (usually 1:50,000 scale).
Do I need any special walking equipment? You will need to carry waterproofs (hooded jacket and trousers), warm clothing (hat, gloves, spare fleece etc.) and food and water with you in your daypack. Comfortable, well broken-in walking boots are indispensable. We recommend boots that come above your ankles since these will provide valuable support on uneven terrain. Walking poles are advised. We will send you a detailed list of suggested clothing and equipment prior to your walking holiday with your Tour Pack.
We love your winter walking holidays, but we are unsure about the walks. How can we walk in snow? Our winter walking holidays are different from our standard walking holidays: especially prepared winter walking trails offer a variety of winter scenery and as the days are shorter so are the walks. Please note that no suggestions for specific walks will be made and no walking notes will be provided! Instead, where available, we will supply a local (winter) map outlining winter walking and cross-country skiing trails. In addition, we will supply you with information on other things to do and to try out locally - we have discovered some beautiful places that offer a wide range of alternative activities such as cross-country skiing (and cross-country ski hire), guided snowshoeing (and snowshoe hire), tobogganing, horse drawn sleigh rides, wellness facilities – just to name a few.
