Why do I need a car? All our walking holidays are designed to allow you to experience true independence and the best of the walks your holiday region has to offer. The majority of our suggested walks are circular, which means they start and finish at the same place. However, public transport to and from the starting point of your chosen walk may be limited or unsuitable. Your own transport ensures that you can set off confidently without having to worry about bus (or train) timetables! What’s more, on days you don’t feel like walking you may want to explore places further afield – not just those on the local bus route or within walking distance of your hotel. Your own car means: You can do exactly what you want, when you want it!
Can you organise my travel for me? We are taking a new approach to holiday organisation and pricing. With the proliferation of low-cost airlines and improved online booking technology, more and more people are choosing to save money by making their own flight, car hire or Channel crossing bookings. On account of this, all our prices on this site are excluding travel – you make your own travel arrangements (all the way to the hotel). To assist you with the travel arrangements for your walking break we have compiled comprehensive information in the travel planner section on this website.
How will I know what airport and airline to choose? We have provided information on the most suitable airports for your Touching Nature walking break on the individual trip pages (information panel) and in the downloadable holiday fact files. Information on which airlines fly from your nearest airport to your walking holiday destination can be accessed in the travel planner section on this website.
We don’t want to fly. Can we bring our own car? Self-drive is possible from the UK, Ireland and all other European countries. For ferry booking and Channel crossing information and to book the journey for your walking holiday please visit the 'self-drive options' page in the travel planner section on our website.
We want to go on a winter walking holiday, but I am concerned about driving in winter conditions. Snow, and driving in snow, is part of everyday life in the regions of Europe we have chosen for our winter walking holidays. As a result roads are in general impeccably maintained and kept clear with great efficiency in winter. However, we strongly advise that winter tyres (snow tyres) are fitted between December to March (and sometimes in November and April too) when driving to and/or in these regions (in fact, fitted snow tyres are a legal requirement in Germany during the winter season). Consequently, the car rental company listed in our travel planner information offers additional winter equipment hire, usually including four winter tyres and/or snow chains. Please keep this in mind when booking a hire car for your walking holiday.
I need to book an airport hotel. Can you help me? Requirements for airport hotels vary widely depending on the airport(s) you are using. Although we are unable to arrange airport hotels on your behalf we have provided links on this website that will help you to make a reservation for the most suitable hotel yourself. Whilst planning your walking trip you can access information on airport hotels here.
Do you provide transfer from the airport to the hotel? No, because a car is needed for all our walking holidays you would pick this up from the airport and make your own way to the hotel, or alternatively, drive to the walking holiday location directly with your own car. Your Tour Pack will include instructions on how to get (from the airport) to your hotel.
